THAT SUMMER FEELING IS GONNA
After seemingly endless, agonizing manufacturing delays, Apache Beat’s sophomore release, Blood Thrills, is finally here!
Available on limited edition 7-inch vinyl - purchase online HERE -
or digitally via iTunes.
We hope this tides over the ‘Beat faithful as the band grinds away recording their debut album with legendary producer
Martin Bisi (whose godly portfolio includes Sonic Youth, Boredoms, Brian Eno, and Afrika Bambaata, to name a few). Check out
the Apache Beat Myspace for new east-coast live dates with We Are Scientists.
Next up very shortly is Terror Bird’s debut single, Shame Is On Your Side/Parties Are For Fools, which, we assure you,
is gorgeous beyond description from start to finish. So stay dry and check back next week for when it drops. K!

IT’S THAT TIME AGAIN
In simpler days, the weather was hot and girls were dressing less, checking out the fellas to tell them who’s best …
but they’ve all got iPods now and everyone’s ignoring everyone they don’t know, so this summer it looks like you’re stuck
with music, again. Don’t fret boss, we’ve got you covered.
Hot off the presses is Twin Crystals’ debut seven-inch, Two Girls, available in fine record shops and for online purchase
in our webstore right HERE.
Also available online – finally! – is an array of exclusive Apache Beat t-shirts (available only at shows until how),
RIGHT HERE. Apache Beat are playing a show
tonight in Brooklyn with The Long Blondes, details of which can be found on their MYSPACE
Dandi Wind is back from their tour of China, some footage of which can be seen on homie Manderson’s
YOUTUBE, along with some unexpected SLU shoutouts from the
motherland. We love you back! Back on the grind, Dandi Wind is touring Canada, and will be kicking things off tomorrow,
Friday, in Montreal. Details on Dandi’s Myspace.
Stay tuned for more news on our long-awaited summer releases, which include Terror Bird, The Tough Alliance, and The Teenagers.

SSTRANGER THANX KINDNESSW
HOLY SCHNIKEYS! 2008, our first official year and showcase at SXSW was an epic, epic success, but fraught with emergency and near-disaster throughout.
The drives were long, luggage was lost, gear was stolen or just didn’t show up, and we were so, so exhausted, but in the end, it was our crew and our REAL
friends that pulled off the last-minute heroics and miracles that saved our asses and made our rager of a showcase on Saturday night one of the proudest
moments of our lives. Big ups to all of our bands for making the grueling trek and playing their hearts out all week, Jonesy for dropping “Goodbye Horses,”
Matty for scoring that strobe, the guy who rented us that projector (which Patrik burned his hands on while he held it for 15 mins straight, what a G),
and last but not least, Sun-Jue Shin at SXSW for putting this thing together for us, believing in us before it was fashionable, and generally being a
beacon of realness in an increasingly corporate-colonized world. WE LOVE YOU!
We said before that SXSW would also be our 2008 legal matter resolution party, and we weren’t lying. Before we left, we said that Crystal Castles’s
Untrust Us was finally manufactured and shipping on the 14th and yeah it was going to be weird and confusing but we’d be damned if we were waiting
any longer. Well when we got to SXSW, we met CC and decided to work it all out like pals, like old times, and this is what’s going to happen: Untrust Us
isn’t coming out, but anyone who preordered Untrust Us has received an email and will get to pick between receiving a copy of the CC self-titled
full-length that went out this week courtesy of the band, or a refund. On October 14th, 2008, a brand new, exclusive Crystal Castles EP will be dropping on
SLU. How’s that for working it out?
We’ve got some brand new Apache Beat shirts (three designs, to be exact) dropping this week as well, once our online shop finishes changing servers.
Sit tight!
PS – Our camera got broken at SXSW before our showcase so if anyone has shots of the madness that went down at Beauty Bar, send em over,
we’ll give you credit.

filthy down the left coast; and our brothers in illmixery, Caps and Jones. Sponsored by iheartcomix, and that pretty flyer you saw on your way in is by

EXCONTEMPORLY?
Things are moving fast.
Dandi Wind's new Sacrificial EP is out, and we're smooth hooking you up: FIVE bucks gets
you one of Dandi's nicest-looking digipaks yet, with SIXTEEN tracks of Dandi's best disco-stomp anthems,
featuring scarily inventive remixes by the likes of Catchdubs, Jokers Of The Scene, South Central, Bitchee Bitchee Ya Ya Ya,
Manderson, Stop Die, Mehr Licht, La Preist, Kevvy Mental, The Royalists, and YoSoyDios! PHEW. Available on tour Jan. 20th.
The Teenagers' Fuck Nicole limited 7-inch is now up for sale in the
SHOP, and they're already going quick
enough for you to be considering acting promptly. The Teens begin their tour in Vancouver at Richard's
this Friday, and Fuck Nicole will be available for all their North American dates.
Also, since you're shopping, we have a few more copies of The Tough Alliance's New School left over from the promo run, so get at those.
Surely by now you've heard Brad Renfro died yesterday at only 25, and shucks it's like Jonathan Brandis all over again.
Brad was a good actor and super hot, but hot in a sad, slow, bygone way with that naive seething worried granite face of his.
It's hard to imagine him having fit in with the Hollywood effete, fratty and smalltown-looking as he was. He should have been
something rough-and-tumble, like a boxer, or a sailor. Remember when he got busted with the weed at that yacht club in Vancouver?
Funny guy. One wonders if he died before he finished filming his part in The Informers, which would have been a pretty sweet
comeback. I wonder if he read the book.
Good Night, Sweet Prince.

2008 RESOLUTION PROTIPS
- Do less drugs, contrary to what those wasted chicks on Intervention
(who still tend to look pretty fine, the bastards) may lead you to believe.
- Check out The Teenagers on their debut North American tour (dates on their Myspace - you know where it is),
starting January 18th in the forgivingly temperate climes of our hometown, Vancouver. Available throughout the entire
tour will be their debut North American release, the ultra-limited 7-inch of Fuck Nicole
(b-side is the now-classic SLUTTT remix). 500 have been pressed, and best believe these will go fast. To follow
in early 2008 is the full release (in CD digipak) of The World Is Not Fair EP. Oh more than ever.
- Keep an eye on this website for big news on SLU at South By Southwest in 2008! It's going to be our biggest ever,
and will double as our semi-official legal matter resolution party!
- Photoblogs are your friend; age is not.

LIVE GAME: DO YOU SPEAK IT?
With Christmas just around the corner, can we start getting cocky about how good our bands are live? Last weekend
we caught Apache Beat at The Knitting Factory NY with Enon - a nice show review
HERE - and it seems
like they've learned a few tricks while doing Europe. Epic new versions of nearly every song in their repertoire,
played with mind-blowing physicality and finesse. If their live evolution is any indication, it's going to be straight
HITS or GTFO when they get into studio (sooner than you think). Fun fact: after the show, a rapt female fan approached
Apache Beat frontwoman Ili and actually offered to go half on a baby (which is flattering, but mathematically impossible!).
We'd also like to announce that our friends in the UK at Cheap Date Records have released their Canuckistan-loving compilation
HORDES OF CANADA, which features Put The Rifle Down, Duchess Says, and Crystal Castles. Read more about it
HERE.
Also while we were in New York, we caught a great solo set by our pal Bruno from post-punk legends The Homosexuals.
Why are we mentioning this? Just Cuz.

BRAKK SNAKE MOANNN
Allahu Akbar! At long last, the first-run of Duchess Says’s “Black Flag” release is in our clutches and available on a
first-come first-served basis right HERE.
We’ve gone on about this release enough during the wait, but in case you forgot, it’s vinyl only, boasting some killer
reworkings by the likes of The Juan Maclean, Treu, and Pirate Soundsystem.
For the Japanese faithful, “Black Flag” will be shipping out immediately to our good friends at ESCALATOR Records
in Tokyo, where it should be available shortly, along with the Apache Beat records and of course the rest of our back catalog. If you’re
in Asia it’s probably better to just wait that week or so, since shipping will be a lot better ordering from the mainland.
If anyone’s interested, the answers to last week’s pop quiz were:
1)Jamie Foxx
2)Trick question. We just wanted to see if anyone got worried.
Nobody won the contest. Then again, nobody lost.

L.L. P.T.R.D.
If you haven’t been seeing Put The Rifle Down around lately, you need to get your eyes checked.
Fresh off some typically tight, raucous shows with the likes of New Young Pony Club and We Are Wolves, the
boys of P.T.R.D. are currently featured in Exclaim's "Click Here" column. In other P.T.R.D. news,
their debut album tracks are getting the finishing touches, which is sure to delight the loyal legion of
uninhibited young women who give their all at seemingly every Put The Rifle Down show ever.
Speaking of kicking it live and direct, Apache Beat are having tons of fun on their European tour, and have
with them a fierce array of merch, from records to tees to totes. Catch them while you can. Good news on the
homefront is that the TROPICS / YOUR POWERS ARE MAGIC 7-inch has come in, been hand-numbered out of 500, and will
be shipping out to pre-order customers effective immediately. If you’re from the UK and missed your chance to see
them, fret not, because after tour, or maybe even during, Apache Beat goods will be available at Puregroove and Rough Trade.
Surprise trivia time (for the shawties)!
1. Which actor used the exact same structure as the first sentence of this website update on their own website?
2. Which past member of Amy Grant’s (live) backing band went on to form highly successful indie-pop supergroup Architecture In Helsinki?
First correct reply to info@summerloversunlimited.com gets to be the meat in a Bart Simpson / Ryan Sheckler sandwich. Get em girl!

APACHE BEAT ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK. (GET THEM!)
A few months ago, Apache Beat, with just a few first-try demos at hand, managed in no time to get hyped in the pages of Vice,
Dazed and Confused, and New York Magazine, and began playing a series of increasingly epic, unmissable shows in their hometown
of New York City. Now having re-recorded and re-mastered the songs just perfect for their debut release Tropics/Your Powers Are Magic,
Apache Beat are taking Europe this month (tour dates and demo tracks available at the Apache Beat Myspace.
By the twin fortunes of 1) perfect timing and 2) harassment, we’re going to have Tropics / Your Powers Are Magic ready to go just in
time for the tour. Limited edition, vinyl only (7-inch), with artwork by renowned design crew Rinzen.
Tropics will be available on tour (with tees and totes!), with pre-orders available now.
If you haven’t seen them live, we really can’t do justice to this record: these songs strut hard and clever with seriously murderous rhythm;
sinuous, flitting interplay of keys and guitars; and a voice that’ll fracture you a like chandelier. Looks like you’ll have to find out all at once.
Also: When they get back from tour, followup release Blood Thrills is just around the corner.
Also Also: Live shows all round, please check the sidebar.
Suplize! You’re beat.

I CAN'T FEEL MY FACE
Now that we are all so proudly at peace with the onrushing downfall of western civilization as we know it,
what better way to celebrate this supa sexxxy new disintegration of humanity than the announcement of our
newest artist, SLUTTT!
Much like the uneasy thrill of tracking our culture’s slide into total moral entropy via
reading the happily drug-addled, free-lovin’ bulletins of random underage Myspace friends, the increasingly
mysterious SLUTTT persona drops monstrous dancefloor-slaying beats while spinning jarringly pinpoint tales
of cocaine nights and galleria days. Shocking, funny, and sad at once, the songs of SLUTTT are the tales of our teenage clubland.
This promiscuous girl prodigy first caught our attention with her amazing remix of The Teenagers’ “Fuck Nicole.”
When we got to hear the raucous, nihilistic genius of the disco-stomping “When I Want It” demo (also available for
listening in the above-linked Myspace acct), we knew we were in love. SLUTTT’s most recent (and unfinished) masterpiece,
“Stop Copying Me,” elevates paranoiac narcissism to a neck-snappingly sublime art form. Welcome to last Tuesday, bitches!
At this point, we still don’t know who SLUTTT is, or where SLUTTT lives. Maybe it’s better this way, LOL, FBI.
All we know is that SLUTTT is real, SLUTTT is universal, and a little bit of SLUTTT lives in all of us.
Welcome to the family, youngblood. Please don’t steal anything!

BLAME THE SMOKE PIT
Thanks to all who came out to the Twin Crystals tour fundraiser last week (w/ pals Cheerleader Camp, Primes, Suspiria).
Now Jordan, Jesse, and Jeremiah are flexing that jalopy down the west coast to play-date with killer bands like Night Wounds and Finally Punk
(full deets on our MySpace page). They’ll be wrapping the tour with a session at KDVS, which promises to be mayhem incarnate – you crazy for
this one (DJ) Rick!
Dandi Wind’s tour, or at least this leg, is winding down with some serious can’t misses: they’ll be playing with Mission of Burma,
Camera Obscura, and, ulp, Peaches, at the LiteBrite Fest among others. Once again, full
details on their tour page and Myspace.
Oh, we might as well tell you here rather than in one of those increasingly invasive and Myspace-ish invites that you should join
our FACEBOOK group. Speaking of Facebook, you probably thought you’d
found a better, cleaner, more intimate and hipster html hell-free alternative to MySpazz when you signed up, eh? Leave it to the music
promotions industry to ruin that too. Wow, widgets!

WHERE TO BEGIN
Our favorite Swede-pop wonderboys, The Tough Alliance, have officially made their North American arrival in style.
We’re proud and humbled beyond belief to announce our release of the majestic New Waves, their North American debut.
This week’s excellent review in Pitchfork
of New Waves does an exhaustively accurate job of describing TTA’s ingenious, uncompromising approach to pop songwriting -- but
you’ll have to hear and see it yourself to get the full effect.
Available now digitally through iTunes
and eMusic, and in lush
full-color digipak through our online shop, and
most fine record stores. The CD release also includes hi-res videos of “Simple Games” and “25 Summers and Runnin”, lo-res previews
for which can be seen here and here,
respectively. Please note that this is a VERY limited-edition release, and our webstore reserve will be sold on a first-come,
first-served basis. So if you’re that cool cat on the scene who’s kinda friends with us and you’re waiting on that free
promo copy, congratulations! You can wait forever.

SAID SUGAR TAKE THE TIME
If you’ve pre-ordered the Crystal Castles Untrust Us CD, you’re probably wondering what the big hold up is.
The band, after many hurried months of touring, is currently finishing up the artwork, and the final mixes
(of the expanded-from-original tracklist) are all but done. Rest assured, we’ll make it worth your while and reward
your patience (and respect your place in line) with plenty of free SLU swag once the CD finally hits the streets.
In the meantime, check out or revisit these downloads of some of Crystal Castles finest remix work, first for Bloc Party’s
“Hunting For Witches” off the Fader blog.
Then, check out their perfect, infectious reworking of Health’s “Crimewave”. WARNING: the keyboard line from this
is so catchy you will immediately be in severe danger of looking like Bobby Digital on the streets, as you sing it
involuntarily everywhere you walk. Doo-doo doo DOO, doo-do doo-doo DOO, dUH… Maybe you’ll be okay if you lose the mask.
Lastly, we’d like to give some shouts to Vancouver’s Salon De Bourgeosie aka SALBOURG, who counts our
very own Paul Devro among its ranks. They’re representing raincity HARD, with hostings of Radioclit, Daft Punk’s
Electroma, and BoyzNoize coming up, to name a few.
More big news on Friday.

ONLY BUILT 4 CH3X4 LINX
That's right, it's customer appreciation weekend for the Channels diehards.
For a limited time, the contents of the Ch3x4 limited edition 7" lathe-cut
released last summer (which sold out almost immediately, leading to much
latenik chagrin and subsequent SLU staff harassment) will be available for
download HERE (zip file, right click).
This 7” contains the rarest gems of the Channels early days,
unavailable anywhere else. Bascially, these are the songs that made us fall in love
with the band in the first place. If you want a taste of the legendarily riotous
Ch3x4 live experience, THESE ARE YOUR JAMS.
While you're downloading, check out new-ish press
coverage of Channels at Missing Toof
and BibaBidi if you haven't already.
We love Channels fans. Because you buy the records.
And if you loved Channels, you'll LOVE Twin Crystals, fronted by Channels
ringleader Jesse Freelance. Their debut 7", coming soon, features
thunderously dirgey debut jams "Trinity," "Two Girls," and "Safety" in their
most epic studio incarnations ever, along with some seriously jaw-dropping
artwork. But not before a super-limited lathe-cut 10" gets here first,
chock full of slash-n-burn early tracks like "No Clinics" (no, they won't
play it live anymore). Email us if you'd like
to reserve a copy of the extremely limited (50 copies) 10".
Twin Crystals, who just played a burner of a show with pals Glass Candy in
Vancouver, are also gearing up for some touring, dates for which can be
found here
and as always on our Myspace.

A FACE THROUGH A WINDOW...
Oh Dandi, they're still on tour and charging harder than a pilled-up professor on salsa night. Probably just as sweaty, judging from their
positively psychedelic heat-struck phone calls from the road. Since they're probably not too interested in food at the moment, some great press
of note from Pitchfork,
Big Stereo, and BiBaBidi
should tide them over til the next stop.
Speaking of next stops, keep an eye on the tour page
and the Myspace this week, as new dates and venues for Dandi are being added
and rejigged as we speak.
Okay, enough about those poodle-walking waifs, they're doing just fine. Remember that insane Duchess Says Black Flag 12-inch that was supposed
to drop an eon or two ago, before we had to fight the baddies? Well, it's finally back on, with remixes from Treu (Fluffy Target, Der Plan),
The Juan Maclean (DFA Records), and Pirate Soundsystem, and art direction by Annie and our boy Rory ThemFinest. It's at the plant! WUT.
Oh yeah, please note that our releases are now available for purchase as digital downloads on
Zunior,
eMusic,
and a whole grip of other sites we'll let you know about as they get activated in the coming weeks. Internet!
Eat your vitamins.

SEXUS NEXUS
Just wanted to drop by and let you know that two of our favourite people are hitting the road, stabbing forth at the dark
heart of the American South with the lifeforces of a billion yarn-haired, spiky-backpacked Camden teenagers festering in their craws. Ummm, or something like that.
Yes. After a successful European tour supporting The Horrors, Dandi Wind are off once again. They'll be hitting the East Coast and the South starting, uh,
tomorrow in Philadelphia and the West
in August. More updates to follow and dates can be found here. DO YOU KNOW WHO
SLEEP IS THE COUSIN OF??? Then don't.
Last time we were here we mentioned that Dandi's sophomore album, Yolk Of The Golden Egg, would be out of the beginning of this month. If you know us at all
then you know such a statement could only be inexact at best and meretricious at worst. If we didn't lie to you all the time how else could we uphold
our shitty asshole boyfriend image? The truth comes with time and more money. Sort of. But really it's been getting the one, two, buckle-my-shoe treatment
with some new tracks added to make sure that you love it even more than we do.
In other news, those of you who are into vinyl should be advised that we are running out of the Duchess Says, Dandi Wind, and Channels 3x4 12"s. Don't say we didn't warn
you, riiiight? WEBEBSTORE AHOY!
Back in the next couple of weeks with the actual, factual release of The Tough Alliance's New Waves EP and a present from Channels 3x4.
YES, OF COURSE WE ARE FUCKING JUDGING YOU.
|
| 05.06 |
THE SWEDISH TOUCH
Ruh-roh, we'd like to welcome Sweden's The Tough Alliance to the SLU
family. First to drop shall be their flawless "New Waves" (preorder here)an EP that showcase's TTA's sublimely unorthodox pop songwriting, and sounds
laced with the sweep and grandeur of what could only be pure, invincible
youth. Crashing onto North American shores this summer, it's so tough.
Dandi Wind is cutting Europe to pieces with The Horrors until the end of the month. The brilliant sophomore album, Yolk of the Golden Egg, will
be dropping at the beginning of July. Also on deck are 7"s from Apache Beat, Kap Bambino, Twin Crystals and Leif
- more on that later.
By the by, we're famous until the end of the month cause we're in The Fader, which you apparently can download for free along with a podcast featuring
Dandi if you go here. We also did an interview
for our good friends over at Chalked Up. Channels 3x4 get in on the media orgy with an interview for Dazed and Confused,
here. And look at that, Apache Beat get love as well.
Paul too? Hmmmm.
EVERYONE LOVES A GOOD DUST-UP. YUSS THEY DO.

GRAND OPENING, GRAND CLOSING
Well not quite, but sales have been moving more quickly than anticipated
upon launch of our webstore, and we're once again sold out of some of our
more popular products. Fret not, because we're on the re-up once again.
Oh, and if you're going to Texas for SXSW, be sure to catch Crystal Castles'
and Dandi Wind's showcase performances at the Beauty Bar, on March 14th and
17th, respectively. Steers and queers, we salute thee!
Give us a day and there will be some more news and the live dates will be updated cause Dandi is also on
tour. Trust, you don't want to miss out.
CHANGES IS COMING.

WE'RE FINE MOM - HOW'S WASHINGTON?
Happy New Year, dearest demographic. Here's hoping your godless LIEberal
holiday season involved far less depersonalization and police presence than
ours!
Dandi Wind's Vancouver homecoming show at Salon des Bourgeosie
with Twin Crystals and Fake Shark Real Zombie was certified freaknasty - check the pix at our Flickr page.
though we hear it wasn't nearly as life-threatening as Dandi's all-ages show the previous week at the Mt Pleasant Community Centre (pix here)
You may have noticed that we've also re-released Dandi's excellent debut
longplayer, Concrete Igloo, in enhanced CD, replete with ten original
videos. You are creatures of the wind.
In other good news: Channels 3x4 are back to work on their full-length
after a blissful post-tour spell of trying to kill each other; the
Duchessessess, while under attack from Turkish hax0rs, wrapped a hugely
successful North American tour (for which a road-edition of the Black Flag
EP can be purchased to your left); and Stop Die Resuscitate's Bad Night 12" drops in a
matter of weeks, with remixes from Tacteel, Murr, and the frighteningly
precocious Leif, (no nordic).

FIRST YOU GET THE MYSPACE, THEN YOU GET THE POWER
Then you don't update your dot-com for yonks. Hey, it's not like we haven't
been busy. Thanks to everyone who came out to PopMontreal (the greatest
party on earth, still undisputed!) and all who helped put it together.
Show, thy bum was rushed.
If you've been keeping up with our MyBeard account, you'll notice we've got
some absolutely godly new acts on our roster in: Put The Rifle Down
(Toronto), Crystal Castles (Toronto), The Teenagers (????!!!!), and Twin
Crystals (Vancouver). These kids are seriously sitting on some fire - just
you wait. With all the new blood, we're waiting just a minute more to
spring the new site on ya - we want each of our lovely and talented acts to
have the nicest tubes serially possible.
Tour dates for everyone have been updated. Lots and lots of posse touring
this holiday season - Duchess Says and their dear friends Les Georges
Leningrad are currently on their first North American tour together; Stop
Die and No Luck Club soon reunited; Dandi's back from yet another UK/Euro
jaunt to play some hometown megajams in MTL and Vancouver.
Stay tuned -It's been emotional.
Love,
DK, Patrik, Scotty, Brad, and the fam

GIGANTOR SUMMER UPDATE THINGY (AKA SWEAT SWEAT SWEAT)
Big things brewing at SLUMrecs HQ as the heat slowly slowly cooks our vital organs:
1) SLU003 is shipping at long last! Channels 3x4 have rerereleased their debut 7" in a superultralimited edition dealy between us and
Deer and Bird Records.
Only forty of these were cut onto clear plastic so get them while they can be gotten. We also have t-shirts designed
by the band available in a variety of sizes for zim and zer. In a week or two we'll also be releasing their Johnny Jewel produced
12" EP, Christian Girls Like To Get Cut, so check back for that.
2) Tour and live dates have been reviewed and revised. Duchess Says are jaunting through Europe at the moment, My!Gay!Husband! and
Paul Devro are flexing on the east coast with our pal Rory THEMFINEST, and Channels are gearing up to whip the British Isles
into shape. Hit up the menu to the right for more details.
3) That dude Paul Devro wrapped up his incredible TOMA 3 mixtape recently, right in time for Portuguese Heritage Month. We'll have it available
with artwork by Rory THEMFINEST right in time for Brasil to lose the World Cup. Serious.
Paul comes ridiculously tough with Baile tracks many many moons beyond any mix you may have stumbled across. Details on the release party should be clear real soon. This is
the real summer shit that will make girls wish they had a booty to clap. Instructional video not included.
4) We've got some megaheavy shit dropping over the next few months. New twelves from Duchess Says, Stop Die Resuscitate,
and theKids. Dandi Wind tees. Fancy website relaunch. Long players from Channels and SDR. Special Edition
SLUMrecs Kimchi. (!!!) Mmmmmmm.
5) Check our our new YouTube account! We'll be uploading more show
footage in the coming weeks. Feel free to send us any footage you've shot and we'll give you credit and throw you some product. Please, no mixed martial arts
highlight reels (we've seen them all).
6) Bellbottoms were initially designed for naval personnel. The bottom of the leg was widened so that dudes could take off their boots with ease and so that when they
were swabbing the decks the pant legs could be folded up and onto the thigh.
And ummm, Hugo Boss designed and manufactured the Nazi's uniforms. Now what?
ps - Check out our friends over at Chalked Up.
pps - Don't even get us started about how big Pop Montreal is gonna be for us this year.

SLU
MYSPACE ACCOUNT
Yes it's evil and probably results in more ludicrous net-borne beef and
misery than a billion Vordul & Will High box sets, but since
we're rebuilding the site right now, it's a nice placekeeper for
SLU-related pictures, sounds, show dates, slander, love, all that hot
garbage. Add away, "friends"!

MIXTAPES ARE
FOR
LOSERS V.1
for a sample - "we chop you off a proper chunk / be at THE
KIDS for some more of that funky stuff." This
Saturday, The MET, it is ON, crumb bumz.
JAPON + ON + ON
Tonight is Paul Devro's last night at GRIME
SESSIONS at SHINE before he and M!G!H leave for Japan
next week. Show some love and we'll show it back. Go!
ANSWERS + CLUES
1. The
store is
temporarily down, as we reload, and make things proper. Our reasons are
the right ones. You will see.
2. Since
we
have been recieving queries re: the (who's that) girl on your top left,
let us explain: she is known as Femme Inconnue De La Seine. It's
a death-mask of a young woman who committed suicide and was found
floating in the Seine river, in France. The mask became iconic, the
French 'Jane Doe' in a way, as it failed to find her kin, or anyone who
cared for her, as time, time, time ticked by. The American who invented
CPR came across this mask on a trip to France, licensed it somehow, and
made it the mold for a face anyone who has taken first aid has kissed
at least once. Now a symbol of life, the face became known as CPR
Annie. Annie is also the name of the singer of Duchess Says, who have
just done something incredible at M.E.G. Now, we hope you understand.
Hold your breath. Wait to exhale.
3. MIXTAPES
ARE FOR LOSERS we
are waiting to drop this weekend. There is a backstory to this you will
find interesting. Also, the thing is so hot it burns. Wait. We know
it's torture but it is better this way. Fight Club lye scene.
4. Your
favorite numbers are 3 and 4. So are your Channels. Eat Glass Candy as
you wait for more on this.
Photo contest for the last frontpage
was won
by Mathew Smith
aka ASCII. Congrats, Mathew! You get your gift now. The new frontpage
is courtesy of Rory of THEMFINEST. Things are changing. Clue words for
the new, improved, future: prix, pics, fuckkillkillfuck,
a/v, TV, friendship, gratitude.
GRANDMA DEVRO'S TOP THREE
(AND FOUR)
1. The
store is up, with more gear to come. Please note that all funds are
CANADIAN, and the shipping rate as of now is FLAT, so if you're not
living in Canada, snap that shit up quick before we figure it all out.
2.
Dandi is playing Barfly tonight in London, 8:00pm, DSays are playing
Zaphod in Ottawa, 9:00pm. We only wish we could witness the carnage
firsthand.
3. Paul
Devro
and M!G!H! profiles and audio bombdrops are in the mail. While you
wait, here is GRANDMA
DEVRO speaking on her three favorite things.
4. What
are
your favorite numbers from 1 to 4?
OOPS! OH MY
Thanks to a little transcontinental miscommunication it turns out Dandi
will be playing FABRIC on the 27th, not
the 28th - the 7 key is pretty close to the 8 key. So that's
why they made us spell out numbers in school. Lesson learned!.
BACK 2 SCHOOL PHOTO CONTEST
We are accepting photo submissions from anyone who wishes to have their
shot on our front page, with credit and
prizes (it has to be good though - no cat pics, staged shots, or that
shit where you or your hot friend is looking up at what must be a very
interesting ceiling). Don't wait, participate!

NOBODY DIE, NOBODY GET HURT
After a long, hot summer of stressed-out super-fun and general
what-exactly-is-happening-here, the offices of S.L.U.M. Records
&
Recreation is open for business. Endless love to everyone who showed
support for our raging Chinese-fire-drill bi-coastal launch parties and
utterly baffling propaganda machine.
Tours of assault and battery are in the works for Dandi Wind and
Duchess
Says. You know when wimpy student indie zines get stoked on bands for
being
'crazy intense', but the bands turn out to be just mildly intense, or
just
sort of spazzy with okay hair and shit tunes? This is the opposite of
that:
if you were at PopMontreal, you were surprised nobody was maimed or
killed
at the Duchess Says show, where the precision-controlled violence of
crowd
participation managed to steer crowd-surfers' faces by mere inches
around
low-dangling ghetto-glitterballs with all screaming the same song in
uncanny
unison. If you've ever seen Dandi Wind's live human self-sacrifice
demonstrations we mortals have the luxury of calling 'shows', you've
seen an
cute, retiring little woman channel pure hellfire through red-lined
vocals
and jacknifed limbs, and at the end if it all, you asked yourself, "Am
I
some kind of pervert for liking that?", and then told yourself, "I
don't
even care anymore."
There will be really good records and other pretty things to look at
and buy
in the online store, which should be up right quick. More artist
signings
and attendant official chaining ceremonies (not joking whatsoever -
SLUM
medallions available for the public thereafter) and compilation action
are
on the way. This site, and our/your very own souls, will double in
content
and usability in a matter of weeks. Thank you for surviving us so far.
Luv you lots,
The erratic personalities of S.L.U.M. Records and Recreation.
